2016 Taupo Members Meeting
Great meeting once again in wonderful
Thank you Dr Richard Price!
How do you know if you’re getting
the correct output from your
Light Curing Unit?
Richard completed his dental training at the University of London in 1979, followed by his DDS from Dalhousie University in 1988. He then completed an MS in Restorative Dentistry at the University of Michigan in 1984, and a PhD at the University of Malmö, Sweden in 2001. Richard is the Division Head for Fixed Prosthodontics at Dalhouse University, where he works clinically in the Faculty practice. He is the inventor of the MARC™ system for teaching effective light curing, and is actively involved in research on dental resins and curing lights.
In 2014 and 2015 he organized symposia on Light Curing in Dentistry at Dalhousie University which were attended by over 40 Key Opinion Leaders from academia and industry. Richard is the author of over 100 peer-reviewed articles.
Almost every dental office will have at least one curing light, and using this curing light probably helps to generate around half of the income for a restorative-focussed dental office. Recent developments in curing lights have produced some lights that
claim to adequately cure composite resin restorations in as little as 1 second. However, the evidence that today’s composite resins can be adequately light cured in even 5 seconds is lacking. The presentation will review light curing technologies, and discuss if
you can adequately and safely cure today’s composites in 5 seconds.
